About Wizard of AAHHHZ

About the Wizard

Reggie Peterson is the boot-fitting “Wizard” behind Wizard of Aahhhz.

He grew up skiing with family and friends, and that early love for the sport has shaped his entire life. With more than 40 years spent in ski shops, back-lodges, and out on the mountain—including nine seasons coaching the Alpine Meadows Ski Team—Reggie has fit countless boots and helped countless skiers find comfort on the slopes. Several of the athletes he coached will even be representing Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina.

After decades in Tahoe, Reggie has brought his technical know-how and easygoing style to Orange County, where he’s excited to discover such a passionate ski community. He’s genuinely thrilled to share his experience and help local skiers find their most comfortable, best-performing fit.

What to Expect From Your Boot-Fitting Experience

Wizard Of Aahhhz is a full-service ski boot lab.

You will meet with Reggie and begin the process with:

1. Discussion about your skiing level and where you want to take it.

2. Thorough bio-mechanical assessment:

  • Measurements of foot lengths (yes, right and left feet commonly measure differently).
  • Foot shape(s).
  • Foot widths (Known as “LAST”).
  • Instep height.
  • Heel width.
  • Arch height, length, and stability.
  • Ankle flexion.
  • Skeletal structure/trouble spots (bone spurs, prominent bones, “sixth toe”, etc.)
  • Gait and alignment.

3. Prior boot fitting issues you have experienced: What worked? What didn’t work, etc.

4. Current boot assessment (if possible).

From this information, Reggie will begin recommendations for boot model, size/width (LAST), flex, biomechanical support device (footbed/alignment), etc.

Along with proper initial boot fitting, there are services offered to customize the ski boot to one’s needs. See the list of services below.

Additional WAHZ services

Reshaping of Boot Shell to Accommodate Trouble Areas

The Wizard is equipped with various tools that allow for customization of the boot shell, itself.  This is commonly known as “punching” or “grinding” the shell.

Heat Molding of Boot Liner (If Applicable)

Some ski and snowboard boots come stock from the factory with heat moldable inner boots (liners). Proper “cooking” temperature and shell “mating” is key to a successful outcome to this process. Many trouble areas can be addressed with heat forming of the liner.

Heat Molding of Shell (If Applicable)

Wizard of Aahhhz is equipped with one of the few FISCHER dual zone VACUUM podiums in California.

This equipment allows for heat and pressure molding of FISCHER VACUUM ski boot shells.

Various boot manufactures have heat moldable shells as well as FISCHER VAC. As with heat molding of liners, this process needs to be done with care in temperature and handling so as not to damage the shell of the boot. The Wizard has decades of experience to make sure this process is done correctly for both your comfort and posterity of your equipment.

Custom Footbed (Insole) Molding/Fitting

Proper support and alignment of the fore-foot, heel and arch are critical to foot alignment in the boot to achieve a neutral position. This allows for better stance and power transfer to the ski/snowboard.

There are several options in type and construction of supportive devices. Your best option(s) will be discussed during the assessment phase.

Boot Cuff Alignment (If Shell is Equipped)

Cuff alignment (this is commonly misconstrued to be “canting”) allows for a small degree of alignment with the upper cuff and the lower leg to aid in a “neutral” stance.  If leg/cuff discrepancies are more pronounced, “True Canting” can be achieved by more mechanical means.

Canting

True Canting is achieved by measuring the discrepancies from “neutral” in relation to the center of mass of the knee to the middle of the forefoot.

Plates are added to sole of the boot to correct the angle of discrepancy.

Boot sole toe and heel lugs need to be routered to DIN spec in order to achieve the proper interface with the ski bindings.  THIS MUST BE DONE BY AN EXPERIENCED TECHNICIAN TO AVOID IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE BOOT SHELL!

Hand Tuning Skis (Upon Request)

While you're in getting your best fit boots, the Wizard can hand tune your skis upon request.

Custom Sport Orthotics

Not just for skiing, our custom cork sports orthotics will keep your feet comfortable for any activity such as golf, weightlifting, football, soccer, cycling, ice hockey and more.
